Have you done a dental bleaching treatment? You feel awesome and you don’t stop smiling? Great, smile and enjoy .
We want you to enjoy the results and smile as long as possible so we have prepared you a short guide with guidelines after dental bleaching.

What is allowed, what is not allowed, side effects and how to keep your teeth white and healthy, and enjoy them as long as possible.

Important before we start, dental bleaching is a process through which the whitening material penetrates the tooth and breaks down pigments of color (the yellow color).

A lot of people tend to think that the whitening process takes a layer off their tooth,
This is not true!

Dental bleaching does not damage your teeth. The reason for this thinking is the hypersensitivity to heat or cold that can develop after bleaching as a result of the tubule  (small tubes in the tooth structure through which the bleaching material penetrates). Opening the tubule allows the stimuli in the oral cavity to reach the nerve directly and cause hypersensitivity. Don’t worry, this process is completely reversible and the tubule will close within 24 hours.

Guidelines after dental bleaching:

What is forbidden?

  • Do not eat or drink anything for the next two hours. Give your teeth some time to recover from the treatment.
  • Avoid smoking. The damage is much worse just after dental bleaching, and the tendency for stains is greater.
  • Foods and drinks with food coloring also should be avoided for 24 hours. They can color your teeth faster at this point.
  • Do not brush your teeth hard, the teeth are porous and vulnerable in the near future so brush gently.

What’s allowed?

  • Use of anti-sensitivity toothpaste. for example: sensodyne or Colgate sensitive.
  • If the sensitivity is great, you can take a pain-killer (paracetamol, narosin, Optalgin …)
  • Occasionally there is a burning sensation of the lips or gums, it is recommended to moisten with a wet pad for a few minutes or apply a soothing gel.
  • It is also recommended to keep a soft, balanced diet (neither hot nor cold) for 24 hours. This will help your teeth recover.
  • Note that white spots may appear on the teeth or the gum as a result of dental bleaching. These spots will disappear within 24-48 hours without any treatment.

How long does dental bleaching last?

Dental bleaching lasts between half a year and two years and then the teeth will return to their natural shade.
This time can be extended by proper maintenance of the teeth:

Avoid or minimize foods or beverages that contain food coloring.
Same goes for smoking or coffee.

You can also use a maintenance kit:

1) Braces with whitening material:

2) Strips for dental bleaching: an innovative and revolutionary method.

We have it in our  clinic, ask your doctor …
